Happy Australia Day!
There are so many reasons to celebrate life in Australia, and what better way to do it than with a national holiday? Here’s the top five reasons we’re grateful to live in our country!
1. Our diverse nature
Beaches, rainforests, tropical reefs, deserts, mountains – you name it, we’ve probably got it. There are over 500 national parks in this country, most with accommodation available right at the doorstep. We can easily fill our holidays visiting everything Australia has to offer. And with some of the lowest air pollution levels in the world, who wouldn’t relish the chance to get outside in that fresh air? Our natural phenomena also help drive trade in the hospitality and tourism industries.
2. The sheer amount of cultures contributing to our identity
We have a phenomenal range of cultures helping to make up our country and identity. When you consider that the oldest of our cultures, that of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, dates back more than 65,000 years, it’s clear that Australia’s mix of traditions and histories is quite exceptional. Every culture in our society contributes to making Australia the unique place it is today. Our varied range of backgrounds helps give us a unique perspective on the world. And being geographically far away from the rest of the world, our diversity and cultures helps to make us truly a “global” country. It’s also a diverse base from which to foster international interest in, and travel to, Australia. Not to mention that our restaurant scene is all the better for it!
3. Our fantastic hospitality scene
With so many cultures calling our country home, Australians are blessed with some truly diverse dining options. Business in the hospitality industry is booming, with even more restaurants and bars opening every day. And why wouldn’t the industry be thriving? Our food scene offers basically everything you could ever need – good coffee, great food and excellent customer service.
4. Our safe and supportive society
We might complain about our frequently changing Prime Ministers, but really, Australians have it pretty good. We’ve got healthcare benefits, our cities are reasonably safe and our lower population density makes us one of the least crowded countries in the world. We have our problems, just like every country, but on the whole, we live in a safe society with laws mandating equal opportunity for all. And that’s always something to be grateful for. Let’s face it, people literally queue up to move here!
5. Looking forward to a comfortable retirement!
Australia is one of the few countries in the world with an efficient, systemised retirement system. Most people working in this country have a super account that’s contributed to by an employer. If you work in Australia, it’s more than likely your retirement savings nest egg will be happily growing in the background throughout your career. By the time you reach retirement, that nest egg could help you avoid the Age Pension altogether! With a self-funded retirement, you should be able to look forward to travelling, eating out and generally enjoying life whenever you’re ready to leave your career behind.
