Core Super changes to unitisation

From 1 December 2011, the method for valuing investment options in our members' Core Super accounts will change from a crediting rate to unit pricing.

This will not affect your benefit with Intrust Super, but will mean that your account balance and transaction details will be expressed as units as well as dollars.

Under the unit pricing method, units will be priced each week, which will allow us to provide members with more up-to-date information about their account balances.

Update on financial markets

Sharemarkets around the world have fallen sharply over the last week amid growing investor fears about a slowing global economy and Europe's ongoing debt crisis. The Australian market has not been immune and we have also experienced significant losses.

Intrust Super and our investment managers are closely monitoring the situation across all markets. The environment has been challenging, but we remain confident in our investment strategy and risk management processes.

While it may be tempting to move your money into less risky options such as cash during times of market volatility, most experts advise against this. Historically, the strongest market bounce backs have occurred following periods of significant downturns.

Intrust Super tackles industry's $18 billion in lost accounts

In a step that is likely to be followed by other super funds, Intrust has developed the online tool to help its members find their lost super and then consolidate all of their accounts in one easy online step..

This replaces the existing industry-wide practice where fund members must search for funds using one system and then laboriously fill out different forms for each account.

Chief Executive Officer Brendan O'Farrell said he believed the tool was the first of its kind in the industry and would clear away a key roadblock that was stopping many Australians from consolidating their accounts.

Corporate Partner of the Month

Having just kicked off our 3rd consecutive year of Corporate Partnership with the Bronco's Leagues Club, we were very excited to be nominated as the Broncos Corporate Partner of the Month!

As the major sponsor for the Intrust Super Cup (previously the Q Cup) we not only enjoy the sport but support the rugby league community and the future of the game as well.

Intrust Super is a not for profit super fund, so we were proud to forego the personal visit from the Broncos Players and offer this opportunity to the Mater Children's Hospital, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the kids.

We look forward to a long affiliation with Brisbane's iconic team - the Broncos.

Intrust Super is once again supporting the NRA Young Retailer of the Year competition, being held on Wednesday the 27th of July at the Sydney Mercure Hotel.

The award has been a part of retail history for 38 years. It provides a national platform to recognise and reward excellence amongst young retailers under the age of 25, and promotes retailing as a career of choice for young people. It gives young retailers the chance to exhibit their retailing skills, and be recognised by their peers, the retail industry and the general community for their innovation, career achievements and outstanding performance in their stores.

The 2010 Young Retailer of the Year was awarded to Kaylee Albronda, a 21-year-old Myer Management Trainee based in Melbourne. "Winning the 2010 NRA Young Retailer of the Year Award was both a fantastic learning experience and an honour to be recognised in an industry that I am passionate about," Ms Albronda said. "To be the National representative for young retailers is a privilege."

Are you really too young to think about super?

For people in their 50s and 60s, investing in superannuation is probably top of mind considering retirement is a lot closer. However, the decision for younger people to invest into super is quite different, as they may not get access to this money for many years - sometimes even several decades!
