Why hard work isn’t the only answer


Work hard, play hard – isn’t that how it’s supposed to go? So many of us these days work shift work, long hours and overtime. Working in hospitality can often mean the loss of a weekend, or even a full day off. And some of us, after spending long hours at work, come home to spend the rest of the night studying. It’s far too easy to end up with no time to yourself. So when does getting to ‘play hard’ even come into it?

When you’re particularly busy with work or study, or both, it’s important to make sure you still have time to rest and relax. For those of our members that are struggling to maintain a healthy work-life balance at this time of year, here’s four tips to help make sure you’re getting plenty of “me time”.

Plan your week

Planning out your activities and obligations for the week can really help give you an idea of where you’re spending most of your time. If you know work will be busy, try to schedule some down time after work or on a day off. It’s important to dedicate some time for yourself, otherwise even your free time could be eaten up by appointments, household obligations or social events.

Use online tools

With so many services available digitally these days, using online tools can make life’s tasks much easier. You can automate your bill payments by choosing direct debit options, and streamline your banking by scheduling various monthly or weekly payments. Even your super can be managed online! Look after your health

Your health is important, and if you don’t take the time to rest and recover, your body can start to protest!
