Flexible employment is changing the way we earn an income

4/12/2018

The shared economy has given many people the ability to earn an income by providing services through an online community. If your time is occupied with study or caring for family, you could have more flexibility over your income and hours by earning money through the shared economy. Even if you already have a job, there are now some simple ways to earn some extra money in your spare time.

If you haven’t already looked into earning an income through the shared economy, it could be worth considering.

Manage work and study

Working in the sharing economy is a fantastic solution for university students. You can set your own hours around lectures and study by taking shifts as a delivery driver or taxi. If you find yourself with some unexpected spare time, you can choose to sign up for more work. On the other hand, you can easily reduce your hours during exam periods. You could even find work related to your studies!

Get experience in your field

One of the toughest things about going through tertiary education is finding the time to get real-world work experience. And while some courses do involve placements and internships, others leave it up to you. The shared economy can be a great way to get different work experience. You could sell photographs through a stock photo agency or sell your writing or carpentry skills through sites such as Airtasker. Sharpen your skills and improve your resume – better still, you’ll be paid for it!

Earn extra money

If you’re already working full-time, but you’re keen to build up your savings, there are a variety of companies in the shared economy that could have some options for you. With hours that you can control, it can be a great way to earn a little extra whenever you have the spare time. Some don’t even require you to give up your time! You could rent out a spare room, let your neighbours borrow your car or even lend power tools to someone who needs them. With the shared economy, there’s a good chance you’ll find a flexible solution to saving more.
