Emporium Hotel South Bank has partnered with a Brisbane-based education institute to help young hospitality workers upskill for professional careers in the industry.

The new Emporium Academy Diploma of Hospitality Management will serve as a pathway into the sector for young hospitality workers. The course offers training in managerial and leadership skills, as well as finance and budget management.

Commencing in March 2021, students will participate in work experience at the Emporium Hotel South Bank as part of the course, putting their skills to real use.

It’s a great way to help hospitality workers pursue a career in the hospitality sector, and work their way into more senior, managerial roles. And increasing job security for hospitality and accommodation workers is sure to form an important part of the COVID-19 recovery for the sector.

Emporium Hotel South Bank General Manager John McIlwain is pleased to be able to offer this support to the industry and give students a behind-the-scenes look at how a luxury hotel works.

“We are delighted to be able to offer the Emporium Academy and to further support the hospitality industry with this initiative,” Mr McIlwain said.

“Students will benefit from a day on the hotel site each week within the course, which is a convenient way to enhance the learning experience.”

The one-year diploma began this month, offering training in rooms management, operations and food and beverage. Potential career outcomes for students include motel, café or restaurant management, senior chef roles and executive housekeeping.
